DBriefs webcast: Proposed medical device excise tax regs may have broad implications for affected companies

The Internal Revenue Service released proposed regulations February 3 addressing the new 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device sales that was enacted in the 2010 health care reform legislation and takes effect beginning January 1, 2013. (For prior coverage on the proposed regulations, see Tax News & Views, Vol. 13, No. 5, Feb. 10, 2012.)

A recent DBriefs webcast from Deloitte Tax LLP looks at issues that affected companies should consider in addressing the new proposed rules, including:

  • The types of devices subject to the medical device excise tax and clarifications on retail and other exemptions;
  • Common issues arising as organizations prepare for the new tax, such as the taxable price and taxable uses of products, kits, and combination products; and
  • Potential compliance challenges and a practical approach to addressing them.

View the playback of this webcast to understand more about the impact of the new proposed regulations on affected companies.
